I have a vista desktop that is connected to a linksys wireless router. I want to view the shared files from the vista desktop on an xp laptop that is connected wirelessly. The network does have security but I can get internet from it but I cannot veiw the files.

This usually turns out to be a firewall issue. To check turn off the firewall on both machines and see if you can view files. If so just set the firewall to use a home network and you should be good to go.
You also need to check and be sure both machines are set to the same workgroup. Right click My Computer, click on properties, click on Comptuer Name tab.. be sure the workgroup name is identical on both machines. If not click the change button and enter the same workgroup name as the other computer.
That should get it to working.
