It had an old battery/I charged it and it started and rode fine. A couple of rides later the battery died. I put in a new battery and spark plugs. I rode it a couple of times and now acts like the battery is died again. I waited about two hours and it started again. Now it is acting like it has a dead battery again. I don't know what to do next with out spending a great deal of money to get it looked at.

Check the obvious first. Remove and clean the battery terminals. I've seen them before where they looked absolutely fine but a clean up solved the problem.

Then you'll need a multimeter (a cheap £5 one will do) to check the charging voltage.

Worn brushes
Left crankcase cover any damage? Will throw the brushes out of alignment.
Rotors go bad on those bikes easily.
Stator.
Connector where stator wire plugs into wire harness.
Regulator/rectifier.
Bad battery ground.
Bad reg/rectifier red wire not making continuity to the battery.
Purchase a shop manual before they go out of print.

if your honda has fallen on the right side...check your stator.....those are notorious for problems with the electro magnet style generator... any good bump or fall will short them out.
take a volt meter to the battery and watch for charging voltage of 13.5 or higher above 3000 rpm.
