Not necessarily. There are many values worth keeping as well as the fact that some things need to be changed with changing times. I think to dismiss conservatives as out of touch assumes that liberal thinking dictates. I think there are areas where liberals are correct and areas where they are out of touch with reality, let alone times. Sometimes I think Conservatives need to understand that harmless differences are O.K.

The lucky ones do. Those who haven't succumbed to senility, however, live in a World Gone Mad.
Seriously, though, conservatism is by definition concerned with upholding what already is, that's backward looking in a sense, but it's also very relevant, as it means preventing negative change. Liberalism, at the most basic, is the opposite. A constructive tension between the two should theoretically be good.

Conservatives live in the real world, they are real people who go about their lives everyday with the hope that the godless secularism of today will someday be extinguished. Conservatives live in a world that believe that big government is bad and definitely is the root of all evil. Conservatives today believe that they can spend their hard earned money better than any : local, state, or federal governmental agency. Real Conservatives see that George Washington's adage about NO FOREIGN ENTANGLEMENTS - is just as true today as it was in the 1700's. If the rest of the world can't solve their own problems - DON'T ask America to bleed for them.
Its funny, every twenty or so years the same question is asked about Conservatives living in a world gone by -- the question should be , When will REAL Conservatives reaffirm themselves and their beliefs and lead this country again?

I guess that I'll be the only one here who won't bash and make fun of conservatism and will attempt to answer your question?
I have mixed emotions about global warming. Just this morning I read that a bunch more of the scientists who were originally convinced, have retracted their findings and statements.
The religious aspects have never effected my views. I realize that most people think that you have to have deep religious convictions in order to be a conservative but that's simply not true.
As far as stem cell research goes, I would have to research it more before I could give an honest response.
Government programs bother me. I don't think that the government should be involved in much of anything other than our protection. I'd like to see many of the present government programs handed over to the individual states and many others completely abolished.
I'm probably one of the older people here on this forum and have been a conservative for many years.

Conservatism is the philosophy of Nationalism which is being eroded and less practiced in the Western World today. However, Conservatism is still the best, most understood and most practiced Philosophy of national living in the world. It's just been losing its meaning in the West because of the influx of other conservatives from other parts of the world which has given in to the rise of liberalism in the last fifty years of Western History.

True conservatives (e.g., Pat Buchanan, William F Buckley) have strong, thoughtful beliefs that are very relevant. The problem with the conservative vs. liberal debate is that most on both sides are not thougtful or objective-they simply call themselves one or the other for no well though out reason-often simply because their parents were one or the other.

Considering it's usually Conservatives, Democrat and Republican who seem to wish it was back in the days of Christian prayer in school, I'd say yes, that what scares me.
Of course I also remember what else was going on then, I'm old enough to remember it first hand as I doubt most of the Conservative answerers do.

Conservatives are out of touch with reality and the world. They believe in old traditions that do not apply in the modern day anymore. Example: Religion is dividing us as people extremely, Conservatives use that against the rest of the people by fighting to get rid of abortion and rid of prostitution. Conservatives are mostly hypocrites and have no right to talk about God. They aided in the murders of millions worldwide including Chile, Iraq, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Cuba, Viet Nam, etc. Conservatives in particular the Bush Administration should be prosecuted as war criminals and executed in the same fashion as were the Nazis.

the world is much the same, however conservatives have the media against them now. What is conservative? What is liberal? Our minds get made up more by TV news than any other element. There is a such thing as conservative politics, which means government reform. This is not the same as the religious right, which has a moral agenda. So please define what you mean when you say conservatives?

With so many liberals reliving the 1960s right now, it's hard to find conservatives who go back further than Reagan.
So who's really living in the past?
60s - lose in Vietnam. 80s- win the Cold War. hmm, which good old days were better?
