Make an appointment with a couselor. If it is something you feel like you can't control the counselor can decide wether it is your problem or your sons. Obviously, you need to figure that out. From there the counselor will help you come up with ways to fix the problem. It sounds like it is important. Just make sure you find someone you like and feel comfortable with. If you don't have someone committed to what they do... they may just throw a pill at him and have you on your way. Good luck...

Unless his actions are causing an immediate danger, definitely schedule an appointment with a mental health professional. The hospital is all about a quick fix for an emergency. Your son probably needs counseling instead.
Be VERY suspicious of medications your doctor might prescribe for him. Many pills can cause him more harm than good.

I would recommend the Professional over the hospital due to the intimacy of the treatment. I have a sisiter who suffers from severe mental problems and when she goes to the hospital for help they always medicate her till she behaves and then releases her without ever addressing the problem. A quick fix never lasts.

Ask yourself this:
Are you scared he is going to hurt himself, you, or anyone else?
If the answer is I dont know or Yes, have him committed for a 24 hour observation period.
You do mean a mental health hospital right? Cause an ordinary one will probably just give him an injection of sedatives.

he's probably just starting into puberty.. try talking with him about it... if you really think he is going to be a danger to himself or someone else.. THEN it's time to talk to a mental health professional.. try a councilor first... .. no reason to get him on medication if it's not COMPLETELY necessary.. also you may consider trying to get him into hobbies like karate or some sort of craft like building model planes or something.. these can all be good outlets for his anger...
he's a boy.. he's almost 13.. he's going to be angry.. help him learn how to vent it in a healthy way.. remember anger is not a bad thing.. so long as we don't let it control us.

They aren't going to keep him in the hospital unless he is suicidal or homicidal, however if you do take him to the hospital they probably will connect you to outpatient resources and you will be bumped as a priority as opposed to someone who calls themselves and may have to wait a month or more for an initial intake appointment.

I dont know much about the situation but if its like rage then I wouldnt wait. He may need help to fix this. Usually there is something pushing it. I mean if its just normal teenage stuff (I know hes only 12 but close enough) then maybe talk to his doc and see what they suggest, but if this is really bad I wouldnt hesitate. I dont know if its still there but I seen a Dr. Phil show about this stuff, maybe try logging onto the website and see if there is info on this. He discussed how to know when its time to get help. www.drphil.com

Sounds like he needs a long walk and a good talk. He is upset and frustrated about a number of things most likely, and is not telling you
Something in his life is out of control besides the anger. Someone or something is "stealing" good behavior from your child.
Best of luck with him.
