Hurricane relief, welfare, and the many payouts given to "down trodden" We need limits, not stops, limits. it is obovious that nature smacked a city but why am I spending more than a billion to support people that will not support themselves? Limits on how you spend my money, I would like to have Social Security available to me some day and maybe a few good roads without tolls.

The funniest thing to me is how we have money for IRAQ but when we had the hurricane warning in our hands nothing was done until days later. People died! I can't believe we can drop food in a country in the Middle East, but we can't buy and drop food fast enough for our own people.

I agree. They piss away money like it grows on trees and it is pathetic.....absolutely PATHETIC!

Actually most of the money that was supposed to be "given to the downtrodden" never made into their hands. Either it was used to buy all of those relief supplies, that never got to New Orleans (like the tons and tons of food that spoiled hundreds of miles away) or the money was just stolen. I'm no conspiracy theorist, I dont claim to know where it went, but it didnt make it to New Orleans. And roads are mostly paid for by local gov't not the Fed. Also lets not so quickly forget all of the Iraq budget money that went 'missing' and no one seemed to even bother to ask about.

Social Security won't even be around when I need it. However, if I was from Mexico, I could actually DRAW it without a US citizenship!

Or I could just come over here across the very open border, have a kid or two and BAM! instant citizenship. THEN I can demand MORE freebies all the while screaming at the top of my lungs how unfair it is for me to be treated this way all just because I'm stealing from the American Citizen!

If the politicians had to rely on Social Security like the rest of us do, the problems would be fixed.

We spend 1 billion on relief to help those in need. That's a drop in the bucket compared to our overall budget of nearly ONE TRILLION.

Our military budget alone is $470 billion and you're whining about the pennies given to Katrina victims?

I'm with you on the elimination of social security retirement benefits, but your complaints about food stamps, etc, are just ridiculous and uninformed.

I have always noticed how much pork is spent in this country. $5 million here, $10 million there. It is disgusting when a hurruicane or other natural disaster strikes. People scream for help and all the government can do is say, "Okay, we'll give you $150,00 in aid and we'll give this other state $5 million for study Turnips." Thats a gas!

Ask yourself this important question. Why does the Federal Reserve (a privately owned corporation) get the Bureau of Engraving and printing to print up money at its request and then lend it to our U.S. government at an interest rate?

The truth is that our government is spending to much money around the world period. We need to support our own people first.

It's kind of like you (unless you hate them) supporting an Iraqi family instead of helping out your elderly parents.

Compared to what is spent on Iraq, the money you're complaining about is a drop in the bucket.

More of our tax money is given to the rich than to the poor.

Yes, I'm still noticing it. Though, I count Social Security among other 'wasteful' entitlement programs, such as welfare.
