I use both but,
In general I find:

DSL is much more reliable then cellular (Cellular will drop you if the tower needs the bandwidth for a customer making a regular phone call)

DSL is much faster than cellular (My DSL gets me about 350kb/s whereas my cell gets me about 115kb/s)

Cellular is more portable (Can't take my DSL with me to the airport)

What I would recommend if you don't need a super fast ultra reliable connection, get a nice phone with the capability to be used as a modem. (I suggest motorola thier configuration for them is easiest.)

Of couse, all depends of what are you looking for. With DSL or cable you are attached to a fixed place, with the cellular not. With DSL/Cable, even with a Wireless router, you are restricted to your home space and several feets around, and that's all; with the cellular card your restrictions are the service area for your service.

Characteristics:
Cable; the cheapest, fixed to your physical connection the WiFi area covered by your router. Depends on the cable suppliers, and shares the badnwidht with your TV service (a small theorical decrease on speed when using both).
DSL; cheaper than Cellular, slighty more, almost the same price than cable. fixed to your physical connection the WiFi area covered by your router. do not share badnwidht with your TV service.
Cellular. More expensive. You can move in a wide area, restricted by the service provided by the cellular company (not attached to your home/office); as any cellular, the connection is restricted on some places, or in the interior of some buildings, undergrounds and tunnels, etc.

In my own, I just suggest the cellular for those guys that should be connected to perform a job or follow a real-time issue (like stocks), that should be connected on every place for business presentations, doing remote support to networks, that cannot afford a rush hour without been connected, etc.

Cable - High speed, general high at all times of day. Requires cable TV access.

DSL - High speed, not as high as cable generally, may experience slowdowns at peak times as other people may be splitting bandwidth with you from the Central Office of the phone company. Requires standard phone line connections

Wireless PC card - If your are talking about a Wireless connection card from a cellphone provider, your main concern will be pricing. These can be very expensive and you don't want to rely on one as your main Internet access or you'll be paying through the roof. If you are talking wiress networking, then you will need a cable or DSL connection into your home AND a wireless router connected to that to produce a wireless signal for your laptop.

Hope that helps.

*Cellular wireless is really expensive but you can use it anywhere on the coverage area, it's kind of fast but not really.

*Dsl is good if you live close to the phone office, since the further you are the lowest it gets. The good thing about DSL is that you don;t share with no one else, I mean dedicated to you, and its kind of fast too but it;s the cheapes one of the broadband.

*Cable is faster than dsl but cheaper than cellular wireless. It's the fastest but it's share, which means that you share that connection with your neighborhood probably, but still you get a pretty good connection and pretty good speed. One thing is that even you are sharing with your neighborhood, they cannot see your network because is encrypted.

*Another point is that if you want to go wireless with DSl or Cable you only can go about your home radio, instead with cellular wireless you can be anywhere where you have a cell phone signal and you can get into the internet.

I prefer cable personally, but is up to yuor preferences and needs.

I use a wireless pc card, and my carrier is Cingular. I have never had the service go down in the one and one-half years I have been using it.

I used to have dsl (never cable) but ran into too many problems with tech support (they were not supportive enough; I knew more than they did).

I like wireless because I can use it anywhere in the US (maybe elsewhere too, but I do not know).

It is one of those things where I just do not look back. It is not worth it.

HTH.

Pros:
You can take the wireless pc card from a cellular carrier anywhere they have service.

Cons:

Speed will be roughly two times the speed of a dial up connection. Connectivity issues. Think of your cell phone and where and when you have service. The same thing applies.

If it has a USB 2.0 port and the adapter you have is supported by the operating system I don't see when you can't. You can buy DSL modems/routers that use USB 2 instead as well as ethernet, though- this may be a cheaper option. Hope this Helps!

Typical DSL Speed: 2Mb/s download/760Kb/s Upload
Typical Cable Speed: 4Mb/s download/2Mb/s Upload
Typical 3G Speed: 3.6Mb/s download/1.8Mb/s Upload

The biggest difference between using broadband and the 3G service is when you want to share your internet connection between multiple computers.

When using broadband you can go out and purchase just about any maker and model of router or wireless router to do this. When using a 3G card to share internet to multiple computers you are very limited, in fact there is only one in actual production that I know of right now. pro's for dsl and cable are -more efficient, faster, and more reliable, cons is - more $ and not as portable.

if you want a cellular wireless pc card its more for the buisness men that are on the go. if you are looking for internet around your house get dsl or cable because it is more reliable
