10cc got their name from Jonathan King who released their first records. King had had a dream about a successful band called "10cc". However, popular belief is that they adopted the name because the average male ejaculation is 9cc and the band was above average with 1cc more than that!

King signed the band to his UK Records label in July 1972 and dubbed them 10cc. By his own account, King chose the name after having a dream in which he was standing in front of the Hammersmith Odeon in London where the hoarding read "10cc The Best Band in the World". A widely-repeated claim, disputed by King[3] and Godley [4], but confirmed in a 1988 interview by Creme, [5]is that the band name represented a volume of semen that was more than the average amount ejaculated by men, thus emphasising their potency or prowess.

A number of months back, there was a programme on ITV all about groups of the seventies, and 10cc was one of them . The explanation given by "Legend" is 99% correct except that the male ejaculates on average 9cc of semen, therefore by calling themselves 10cc, they put themselves 1cc above the average person

Apparently, 10cc is the average amount of semen ejaculated by a man during orgasm - the fact that Jonathan King thought it was a good name for the band should have been a warning of things to come...
