OK, I'm asking this because it seems like many issues like smaller government, less spending, a former staple of Republicans seems to have switched. Republicans now seek greater power and greater spending, and democrats seem to want less. I'm not looking for right or wrong, or political bashing on either side. I'm not looking for ambiguous answers like "common sense" or "god" or "morals" I'm looking for democrats to say "pro life" "gun control" etc.

So, what makes you choose your party? Why? Again, lets try NOT to bash each other on this one, bash on the next one.

wow, 9 answers so far and no one can sum up what their party stands for. I don't know why I'm surprised, I shouldn't be, but I am.

Ha, this is exactly why I plan to be an expatriot by age 45. Everyone is up in arms over politics but no one knows that they are talking about.

My political party opposes wealth redistribution plans that feature high taxes as a tool to redistribute the wealth. Histrically, when taxe rates are lowered the economy grows faster, tax revenues grow and unemployment is lower. People need a hand up not a "handout." The government cannot solve everyone's problems. Less government is good. Private enterprise is much more efficient in managing business than the government. Globalization has mandated that America become more competitiive and more productive in order to keep pace in the world.

All the planks come down to three little words in the Pledge of Allegiance: "justice for all." It's really that simple. Now see if you can guess which party stands for that.
