Corel WHAT? Corel is best known for Corel Draw and Corel Wordperfect Office, neither is really comparable to Adobe Photoshop. The only thing Corel makes that comes close is Corel Photo-Paint, but again, it's a PAINT program, not full-blown image manipulation. Corel has also acquired Paint Shop Pro, which is again, a PAINT program.
Just the fact that Corel Photo-Paint sells for about $150 (or less), and Paint Shop Pro sells for about $80, while Adobe Photoshop CS3 sells for $400, should tell you that their capabilities don't really overlap. They are aimmed at VERY different markets. Adobe has Photoshop Elements to compete in the budget segment (usually sold at about $80 as well).

I know many of the school systems use corel, mainly because corel offers better educational discounts for schools. Corel is more friendly for younger children to do basic functions.

Compared to Photoshop, Corel is just a cruel joke. In fact, Corel isn't even in the same league.
