It's like saying you are "slightly" pregnant. That's silly, because one can only be pregnant or NOT pregnant. Life is the same way. One can only be alive or NOT alive. With action, such as giving or helping or being there for someone or getting involved, it's the same. One either does nothing or one does something. I've found in life that it is not as important how MUCH we do, but, rather that we choose to do SOMETHING. The critical fulcrum between something and nothing, respectively, is about choosing to "be", which has meaning, rather than choosing "not" to be, which doesn't have meaning. I sound a bit like Shakespeare there. : )

My answer is really to seek Gods' guidance. Yet, there are two things I have read that seem to be quite informative.
1. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing!
2. Is more of a somewhat story, one shall attempt to tell. A man was walking along a beach and there were star fish every where, he picked up one and threw it back into the ocean? Why?

That depends.
Preferably, you should do whatever you can to help others at all times, however, if providing a little help is more detrimental to someone than providing none, you would be doing them a disservice by providing them a little help.
Example:
Someone's neck is broken, but they are still alive. You have little skill in First Aid. You could do a little help by trying to make them comfortable, but by doing so you paralyze them for life. If would have been better to leave them in an uncomfortable position until those who could help a lot (paramedics) arrive.

I personally think it is better to do a little something, a gesture of kindness rather than to do nothing. At least they know you care and are there for them. Sometimes all a person needs is someone to talk to and listen to them or just spend a little time with them. Sometimes the smallest gestures are the best ones.

It's not impressive to do nothing when you can only do a little.
Life is not all or nothing, there's a huge area in between.

Beats doing only a little when you should be doing NOTHING.
