you know, i dont think they ignore us i thnk because there are so many shades of our skin that its hard to find the right make-up...i have the same problem.
i'm sorta in the middle like vivica a. fox. here are some examples...
-the best for me was FASHION FAIR because it's a black make-up line. it looks very natural and doesnt look "chalky"
-another is clinique which is ok but make sure you look at it in the light before you go out with it on...didnt work that well for me.
-right now i'm trying MAC cause they have a wide variety but still tricky cause it's sorta harsh on my skin. but the color is good.
--if your on the lighter tone you want something that has a more yellowish in it than reddish color
--if your on the darker tone you want something that iluminates your face, not chalky, and brings out your color
~good luck!

The reason is because we Blacks are a small minority (even when you factor in the bigger cities where there's a high concentration of us) so we're not spending as many dollars as our White counterparts.
I don't think there's any underlying racism involved (anymore), just a simple matter of dollars and cents.
If you're looking for a complete look, you'll have to mix and match between different lines. On the cheaper side, you can go with Iman, Cover Girl's Queen Collection, Black Radiance, and even L'Oreal. I
f you have a bit more to spend, I suggest Fashion Fair (their lipsticks have a lot of pigment, unlike the White lines) and Prescriptives. Prescriptives has the best foundations and you should be able to find something that matches your skin within their line. And if they don't have a perfect match, ask them to make you a custom blend. It costs a pretty penny, but you won't be sorry.
As far as eyeshadows go, you can pick from any of the White lines.

There are many brands that have a variety of different foundations for all the colors in the world. Someone in here recommended makeup forever, which is awesome. I would go with Mac. Usually when you buy drugstore makeup, there isn't much variety...and this goes for the white girls, too. Usually they give you ivory, natural, or beige...which doesn't work for me because I'm very very white. So it's not just black people that have to deal with this. If you want a variety of colors to choose from, you have to pay for it. I would definately go with MAC. More choices for foundation, and the eyeshadows are more pigmented, so color shows up on anyone. And if it makes you feel better, MAC viva glam spokespersons have includes Eve, and Missy Elliot. Hope this helps!

There is makeup out there for any girl. There are people that really need to wear makeup and some that don't it just depends on your skin tone, and what your skin looks like. My mom sells Avon. There are millons of people that do. I like Avon a lot! She also has customers with a lot of different skin tones. They love it! I think that you should try it if you already havent' done so!
To find a seller in your area go to avon.com and hit the shop online button, you can put you zip code in the box and you will get the list of sellers in your area. You can email them if you would like to talk to someone else about it!

first of all you shouldnt stereotype makeup companies, they make makeup for everyone, it can go for anyone makeup isnt just foundation, its lipstick, blush,.eye shadow all that stuff and all that stuff black girls can wear, if youre talking about foundation you just have to look because believe it or not its hard for everyone to find their tone or the one that matches perfectly, just go for the darker ones, there are a lot but sometimes its the place that you shop at too, if you cant find a foundation that matches your skin color try going online, but foundation is the only thing i would see that you really have a problem with, lipstick and lipgloss and nail polish or eye shadow and all that stuff can basically go on anyone, it just wont look great on everyone but you just need to find the colors that match you, not what colors you match. Try loreal paris, if not try maybeline or covergirl is ok. Try places like walgreens and walmart, or shopko. Sometimes private shops you might know about have some of the best makeup research and see how many makeup store or drugstores are in your town also and check them out.

That sounds incredibly " feel sorry fo da po black folk". I don't want to be mean, but it is true. But just because your black , doesn't mean Make-Up providers say " I don't think I want to spend time making makeup for black people today, I'll stick with the white folks." You just have to look in the right places. Most EVERYONE has trouble finding the perfect tone, not just you.
My goodness.
Almay and Loreal have a special line just for the African American woman. You could also try Estae Lauter and Clinique at Dillards.

I think because black women seem to have such pretty smooth skin, maybe there's not as much of a market for it. I do not wear make-up, maybe have 10 times in my life, so I don't really worry about make-up, but I have never seen a black chick with bad skin, but seen plenty of white chicks with all kinds of blemishes, from acne to early wrinkles from tanning. May be you should start your own revolution and contact the companies and tell them what you want.

I know what you are saying depending on where you are and demand seems to be the kicker.. I know Trublend by Loreal has a extremely large selection of shades which is great, its in a different kind of bottle. Drug stores always carry more than groceries. There is a brand at a store called Meijer here called Black Opal

There is; you just need to know where to look.
As far as drug store companies, I'd somewhat agree with you, but a trip to Sephora or a Prescriptives counter will probably make you change your mind.
Also look at the company Make-Up Forever, they make EVERY shade of make-up from lily white to the darkest black.
