How long does it take for them to hatch? how can they be protected after they hatch?

if it is a mouth brooder the FEMALE will put the eggs in her mouth and the male doesn't care and will probably look for another mate if it isn't a mouth brooder the male will scout the territory while the female keeps the school of fry near her. if it is a discus the fry would nibble on their parents.

Assuming there is a male in the tank to fertilize the eggs as they were laid, it still could take some time for them to hatch. Can you tell us what kind of cichlids those are or provide a photo? A correct answer really does depend on knowing what fish we are dealing with here.

It totally depends on the type of cichlid u got. Normally cichlids take care of the babies. They keep them together and protect them. When one strays from the bunch the female will suck them up in her mouth and spt them back with the rest. Be careful they dont get sucked up in the filter. You might need to attach a sponge filter.

usually the male will hold the babies in his mouth when they hatch to keep them safe.. are you sure its two females protecting the eggs because usually a male and female couple will mate and protect
