Do not scream by using your throat. This is a surefire way of losing your voice, and damaging your vocal chords. The primal heavy metal scream should come from deep within your diaphram, then modulated through your vocal chords. It is important not to use a falsetto, as you'll just be laughed down town as a poser. Listen to Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson. He is the quintessential Heavy Metal singer - who uses his voice in the proper manner. He has had a career spanning three decades. Axl Rose and others like him cannot even compare.

If you can't sing well then you could take voice lessons. This will teach you techniques that will help you vocal strength and you can learn to sing heavy metal to a certain extent. Some people will never be able to sing no mater what the style. Listen to Cemetery Gates by Pantera and then listen to you take this love. Awesome vocal range.

Dork!!!
You said I could make fun of you.
Seriously though: Screaming is easy. Singing is hard. Learn to sing first. If you still think you need to scream, just start working on progressively increasing the intensity of your voice until you hit the level you want to acheive.
Opinion: Trivium is a great band with crappy vocals
Dragonforce is a great band with great vocals
Symphony X Great Band with good vocals.

yes u have to learn it...my cousin is in a metal band they just got a contract anyway u have to practice at it so u dont f' up your voice...do it from the back of ur throat...just listen to a lot of metal then try to imitate it and record yourself, and practice til it sounds like the voice you're trying for :) good luck

the least perplexing way for me to try this's with particularly some loud music in the history. once you're in basic terms training via your self in a quiet room you is generally too self-conscious to enable flow. Crank your music fairly loud, or in basic terms attempt it with a band. you will seize on after some rehearsals.
