HIP-HOP was a culture started in the mid-70's in the South Bronx, in New York City. The first element of Hip-Hop was Deejaying, Rappers came afterwards.

RAP is a form of music included in HIP-HOP. Eventually HIP-HOP became synonomous with Rap Music.

of course hip hop came first. hip hop came from a movement way back then in the urban culture which brought in artistic things such as graffiti, break dancing, deejaying, and RAPPING. it all started in new york by a bunch of inner city kids. rap is just a form of hip hop... so as long as rap is still around then hip hop will never die. hip hop his NOT dead!

lol...yall tripping.....the music came first before the lyrics....im a youngster...i just love music....you see how people in africa have been beating on there drums so long...they used to just have jazz....then people wanted to say things over the jazz...then someone started rapping...then thats how it came along...lol...it didnt started on the corner in new york where people was beat boxing....u have to have sound to speak...think about it....

The real answer is hiphop! I asked my mom and dad! my mom is 50 years old and knows a lot about music she is old school. My dad does too.
