No, do not worry! Atypical cells simply means that the cells didn't look normal. The most common cause is from minor irritations to the cervix. These irritations can be the result of:
intercourse
douching
a minor vaginal infection
tampons
diaphragms
sex toys
spermicides

Also, if you had your pap test at the end of your period, you would have been shedding sloughed off cells from the uterine lining. These cells can often test as atypical.

Often, the gynecologist will repeat the test. Treatment often just involves finding out the cause and removing it. No, you do not need to stop having sex. Don't worry about the atypical cells unless your doctor gets concerned. Just be sure to always get your pap test exactly when it is recommended.

A typical cells mean you have cells that could be considered a precursor to cancerous cells. They are not identified as as cells that should be found in a pap test. I had this diagnosis and I ended up with a hysterectomy. So go for frequent pap tests to be sure that you are cancer free. I see no reason why you should stop sexual relations with the father of your child. It's not a thing that you could pass on to your lover.
