Has anyone ever gotten scammed with a fake check and now your bank is asking you to pay that money? What can you do to not repay that money when you get scammed by someone?

Should I have to repay the bank for all that money I got scammed for? Do I stay firm and say that I am not going to pay cause it was the banks fault for accepting the false check. How the hell would I know if it was false? They keep harrasing me telling me I have to pay. Do I have a chance at not having to pay? Is it true that they can take my case to the collection agencies?

The first thing you need to do is file a police report. Get a copy of that report and bring it to the bank. They may help you out with having to pay. If you know the person who did it to you then you can take them to court but, it cost money to file a small claims law suit. You can add the court costs to your law suit but, you still have to come up with money to file initially. This cost depends on what state you reside or even which county you reside. You can go online and research it what it cost to file a small claims suit. Also, you will have to take time off of work or whatever to attend the hearing. Your best bet is to file a police report and bring that to your bank and work with them on it. Good luck and take care.

I got scammed. I hate to say this because at the time I was a fool and didn't realize there were those types of people on the net. I got scammed by a internet love scam. I thought the guy cared for me, he didn't. What he wanted was money, at any given cost on my end. The man sent me 3K in money orders, well i tried to cash them, I got sent to the county jail, and had to file police reports, and I was told if I tried cashing anymore checks I would get charged with fraud. I didn't have to pay money out because I was never handed money.

The only way your bank would ask you to pay back money, is if they cashed the fake check. That is the fault of the teller. I would push the issue, because the teller is supposed to be able to spot a check, and should never hand out cash without verifying the check is valid.

Nothing. Call the police and file a report and hope they find them; if you know the person, file a small claims court against them.

Same situation as if you present a counterfit bill. It's your instrument. They are prosecuting the individual who presented it to them; they properly identified the individual and have a location and a case to make. They assume you acted with the same dilligence and can also make a case against the person YOU accepted the counterfit from.

You can try not paying; but these things are happening every day, and you can't fight city hall.
