Is this a satelite? I know that it's not a plane, because it is not moving. It is very still. What am I seeing? It's very small. About the size of a star in the sky.

And people don't get silly with the UFO crap! It's not that.

It's not Mars! I know what Mars is. It looks like it was man-made.

I guess I should have asked this question in a different way. Some of you are not listening. Here is my new question:
Is it possible to see a satelite in the night sky with just my eyes?

Yes, on very clear nights away from the light pollution of a large city you can see satelites you can also see the International Space Station. It could be either one of those. Or it could be little green men from Mars... Just kidding on that one.. hahaha.. Take care and keep looking up.

That depends. Where in the sky is it? If it's relatively near the horizon, it could actually be a light from a radio tower. It's almost impossible to see anything but the light, if a tower is far away. These towers have blinking lights on them so planes don't fly into them. That's what I'd stake my guess on.

It doesn't sound like a satellite, because it's not moving - Satellites move quite quickly, one will be gone from the sky within minutes of you first seeing it.

Watch the light on and off - If it's a planet, it should move at about (not exactly) the same pace as the stars in the sky. Check it once, judging its position relative to a landmark on the ground. Then a couple hours later, go out and check it again. If it's in the exact same place as it was despite the rest of the stars having moved, it's a radio tower. If it actually does move along with the rest of the stars, it's a planet.

Hey! I believe there is other life in the universe besides us! It would be SO arrogant to think we are the only living beings in the infinite multiverse! Someone said once, the true indicator that there is intelligent life in the universe is that they have chosen not to get in touch with us.

Seriously, it is likely a star, a red star. Stars come in a variety of colors, red, blue, white, orange. Ever heard the rhyme, twinkle twinkle little star? Stars twinkle for a reason, the atmosphere you see them through. Ever seen heat waves over a highway in summer? It is a similar thing which makes stars twinkle. By the way, stars closer to the horizon twinkle more than stars overhead because you see them through more atmosphere.

no longer understanding the position contained in the sky you observe this celeb, my wager you're seeing Mars. It typically is a redish celeb, yet with air moves, the "celeb" will look to twinkle, substitute colour. that's brought about my the gentle being refracted by technique of the ambience. it truly is a classic occurance. in case you check out yet another bright celeb which incorporates Vega, you'll see an same twinkling or colour transformations although the bottom colour will be whiter.

Well, you could be seeing a red star, much like one in our very own solar system. The hotter the star is, the different appearance it has. it's most likely a red giant, such as Belteguse or Antares.

often times, the "flickering" or "blinking" of a star in the sky is caused by the light from the star bouncing off particles in our atmosphere. if it isn't a planet or a satellite, this is most likely the answer
