The national media's only obligation is to report the news not to advocate change. However, it can produce news pieces related to the issues of the day whether the slant is liberal or conservative. The news media tends to be more liberal than conservative which predisposes it to favor the progressive tax structure in hopes that it penalizes the rich for being successful. The Fair Tax tends to be favored by those of us who are sick and tired of feeling like servants of the IRS while watching our tax dollars squandered on social programs that feed a welfare mentality.

1- It shows people advocating for themselves
2- No way to sterotype fair tax supporters
3- this is an issue that refuses to align itself with one party of another... it's drifted into the Liberterian party, and doing anything to suggest that people have more than two choices when it comes to politics is a bad, bad thing
4- takes away coverage from Tom Cruise, Brittany Spears, and the ilk. With only 20 minutes to cover what's new in the world, the media doesn't want to divert our attention.
5- We don't have idiots blowing things up.

It's a perfect example of liberal media bias. The FairTax takes power out of the hands of the federal government and places it in the hands of the people, which the Democrats hate. First of all, it eliminates the IRS, a huge governmental organization that essentially has the power to forcibly separate you from your money (at gunpoint if need be). With the FairTax, you choose when you want to be taxed. Since you receive a prebate at the beginning of each month to cover taxes on essentials like food, you are only taxed when you make a discretionary purchase. This is an extremely powerful position for the consumer to be in. In addition, it so radically simplifies the tax system that nearly all of the tax lawyers and accountants would be out of a job. These people, being reliant on the federal government to keep them in business with the convoluted tax code, invariably vote Democrat. In order to keep the status quo, the media will either refuse to cover the issue, or will wildly misstate the provisions of the measure in order to make it seem that the middle and lower classes will be gouged and forced into paying even higher taxes. Looked at closely however, the Democrats are in a bit of a bind. Clearly the FairTax (one word by the way) will dramatically increase revenue by taxing those segments of the economy which are currently untaxed (drug dealers, illegal immigrants, heirs to large fortunes, untaxed under the current code since the money is not income, will all be paying taxes on purchases that they make) so there will be more revenue with which to fund social programs. Unfortunately, many Democrats are more concerned with maintaining a hold on power than on funding pet projects, and so deny their own claim that they are the party of the people. There are still a few Democrats who hold on to their principles and have come out in favor of the FairTax such as co-sponsor Dan Boren of OK and former senator and presidential candidate Mike Gravel of Alaska. So there's your answer. For more on the FairTax, visit FairTax.org.

The national media is dominated by liberals, including extreme ones. These people do not want to call attention to the Fair Tax, or any other issue they oppose.

Because without the hideously complex highway-robbery tax code we have right now - government power plummets! The lib media LOVES LOVES LOVES the government's power to be as far-reaching and centralized as possible, AND they want as many fools on the public dole as possible! Where would government be without holding a proverbial gun to people's heads every April 15?
I must say, though, that I don't believe you'll ever get people in this country to accept the fair tax, anyway. Once people get that money BACK in their pockets and are used to it, it'll be hard to get them to part with it. Why do you think government takes it out FIRST, before you even see your paycheck? I personally think the better idea is a flat tax with the very lowest of incomes going tax-free (isn't that what the flat tax proposal puts forth?).
