You can only "fire" an elected official, specifically a president if they have done something illegal or impeachable. First they must be impeached (which is hard to do unless it's a blatantly illegal offense) and then they must start proceedings to remove the official from office unless he or she resigns. However, I think for something like this, you'd have to blame police officials. The president has little power to actually do anything as far as upholding laws. Congress passes the laws; he signs them, then they are laws. However, these individuals cannot directly uphold them.

Yes, you fire them by voting them out of office, and making sure that the person you vote for will uphold the law and the Constitution. No, you can't have them arrested because they have immunity from it while working in Congress.

We could sponsor recall elections. Even if we don't get enough votes to actually recall a legislator, the mere filing of the recall petition would send chills down the spines of all elected officials who support(ed) the new immigration proposal.

The arrogance of some of the supporters of the proposed bill is unbelievable, and it's clear that many of them intend to do whatever THEY want regardless of what their constituents think.

Linsay Graham of South Carolina gave a speech in which he implied (very strongly) that opponents of the bill are "bigots." Many politicians are trying to show that only they know what's best for the country.

What our elected "representatives" don't seem to realize is that they are supposed to represent US, not themselves. When we voted them into office we did NOT do so in order to enable those we elected to do what's "best" for us. In fact, many of the pro-immigration bill legislators are trying to position themselves to get a good job, probably as a lobbyist, when their days of public "service" are over.

The time to speak up is now.

Politics is all about votes and money. One politician standing up for what is right isnt enough. I believe they have forgotten.....They are elected to pass our views on. Not what gets them rich or re-elected. It is to late for anything to be done about immigration. Oh they will slap eachother on the backs and pass a meaningless bill, but in the end.....Ten years from now the problem will be 20 times worse. We are losing our country.....No were giving it away.

umm...our elected officials aren't enforcement agents. In fact, only the Executive Branch deals with enforcement. The oath of office doesn't require our officials to insure everyone ELSE uphold the law...only themselves (which they can't seem to do).

Lets go back to the end of the bracero program when this all began and fine all of the elected officials or their estates for their failures and lies. I dont want the damn government in my pockets for their avoidance.

I would think it's worth looking into. Until then campaign for their opponents so you can get them out of office. Also look into your states laws about recalls and getting officials out of office.

Hmmm. Well, they have all the guns. So, maybe your granddad should have paid more attention to what was going on around him instead of just working 40 so he could buy a new lawnmower and some tulip bulbs to plant around the mailbox. I mean, maybe the founding fathers should have done something about slavery too.
