Please could someone tell me what x^2 multiply 2x is because I have no idea. My guess is 2x^2 or 3x^2

well...let's see
you have x^2 multiplied 2x. The degree(I think this is the appropriate word) of x is 2 for the first factor and 1 for the second one. By multiplying the two numbers you have to sum the degree of each factor. So you get the degree of x by summing up 2 and 1.----->x^(2+1)=x^3

so the equation is 4x^2 - 2x^3

x² X 2x = x X x X 2 X x = 2 X x X x X x = 2x³
Note that x² X x = x² X x^(1) = x³
ie when multiplying powers of x , ADD the indices.
Example
2x² X 5x³ = 10.x^(5)

Thus in the given question:-
x².(4 - 2x) = 4x² - 2x³

To multiply this out, you need to distribute the x squared over the factor 4 - 2x. Here's what you would get after doing so:

4x^2 - 2x^3
