Hey Cass: Tell your little boy that HOND is fiction, that he really doesn't exist except in our own imaginations. Your boy may think he's real because Victor Hugo described him so well. However the theme of the book, the injustice of the French penal system is very true and was the target of Hugo's wrath not only in HOND but also in Les Miserables.

I'm impressed that your boy knows about HOND. Most kids these days know more about Paris Hilton than Notre Dame de Paris.
