Hi all,

I have a large amount of 500 euro notes to change into sterling. I obtained them from my sister who lives and works (freelance) overseas. I also have the receipt from the organisation who paid her the money as well as a letter of authority, from my sister.

The problem is most high street travel agents, banks etc and Post Office won't exchange them. Various reasons include, they don't deal in 500 euro notes so don't accept them, i never received the notes from them initially. I can exchange them at one high street travel agent, but they would need to go to their Head Office for security checks - serial numbers etc. I am happy to do this but my DVLA paperwork (one of their proof of address requirements) doesn't correspond to my current address (recently moved and have yet to update my drivers licence). Anyone have a quick solution. The notes are definately genuine and there is no laundering involved.

Thanks

Oh dear ... 500 Euro notes are the "main stay" of Drug Dealers across Europe ... and in UK we have EXTREMELY strict anti-money laundering laws ... so I'm not surprised that no Bank wants to touch them without making checks ...

Of course if you have a Bank Account you should be able to pay them in across the counter .. if you don't have a Bank account, about all I can suggest is take them to a Currency Exchange booth at eg. Heathrow Airport = you will need to show your Passport and they will only exchange about £1,000's worth at a time ...

If you spread it over a few months all should be OK - if you swap £10,000 worth in 10 days for sure some-one somewhere will start investigating ..

I think the banks are telling porkies ring up the head office and ask them I know that travel agents dont do then due to security you can change any currency at any bank no matter what the size of note or country of origin
