No they're different. A on the spot ADSL router is a on the spot router than has an ADSL "module" so which you could use as an ADSL modem plus a router. A on the spot router is merely that. It would not be able to plug an ADSL line promptly into the router. particularly, you will ought to connect the on the spot router to an ADSL modem in the direction of the WAN uplink port on the on the spot router. in case you have already got an ADSL modem, merely bypass and purchase the on the spot router, because it will be greater budget friendly. in spite of the undeniable fact that, in case you're making plans to do away with the modem, so which you have one piece of kit that facilitates on the spot community get admission to and information superhighway get admission to, get the on the spot ADSL router.

Buy from your ISP is you're having a new one - then you get better support - or at least you can nag them. but try getting in the router using your browser. Type : http://192.168.0.1 that is the usual private IP of your router. the user name and password may be on the bottom of your router - but the default is usually Admin for user name and Password for the password! Once in poke around the menus and you may be able to get it to email it's log back to you on the hour and every hour. It could be the LCP Link control protocol - if you get LCP down phone the Broadband (not support) department of your ISP and tell them you have LCP down and you're losing sync and can they adjust the line? That may save you a few quid! The Netgear DG834G is well known for LCP down and Netgear know Sh** about it!

SpeedTouch have a bad reputation. However if your disconnecting exactly every hour, thats a common thing isps like to do (chuck you off every hour)
If you do buy a new router, i recommend netgear.

Could be several things.

Router overheating - Is it on all the time?
PSU overheating - Cheap and nasty blocks overheat and cut out.
ADSL problems - Your ISP may be having problems in your area. Contact them to find out.

Best bet - Beg or borrow another router and try it out before splashing out on another. If you do need to get another one the names to get are Belkin or Netgear.

I'd certainly recommend the Netgear 834. Easy to set up and very helpful online support.
... and cheap of course. Try ebay!

It is better you get a Modem/Router from your ISP.
If you buy a router elsewhere you will not receive good support.[Any router for that matter]
