I would like to know what people think about street racing.

I have been guilty of it in the past. I am thinking that with the power and performance of today's street machines it has gotten way too dangerous to do where there are innocent bystanders. If you want to go out in the middle of the desert and race where no one other than the drivers runs the risk of injury or death, go for it. However there is less and less space to engage in this behavior. take it to the strip.

In short, I don't think highly of it. In terms of safety, it's bad enough in regards to the racers... but worse, there are many people around that do not want to be involved and shouldn't be.

But even if you were to throw aside all of the issues with safety, the fact is, in terms of competition and racing, it is just not very good. Be it drag racing or a road course, racing on the street is nowhere near the same, and the abilities of the drivers that choose to particpate in that forum does not come close to someone that has actual experience in real racing.

If the main appeal of car racing would be to drive faster than is safe, but not really that fast, and to do so with the complete disregard to others, then street racing would be an ideal fit. For anyone that actually wants to drive fast, challenge and improve their driving ability, and to do so as safely as possible (understanding that motorsports are always dangerous), the street racing just sucks.

It is not worth it. There are so many drag strips around were you can have legal fun. Street racing can be fun but, it is dangerous for one. You never know when that little old lady is going to come pulling out and you smack her. For two, if you get caught by the police you are looking at some major legal problems like jail time, big fines and losing your license for over a year not to mention your insurance premiums will be outrageous for a long time if you can get insurance at all. Just take your car or motorcycle to the strip and have good, safe fun.

R A C E T R A C K O N L Y!!!!!!!!!! thats what i think of street racing. its wicked time to crank on your car and beat some a** but too many deaths on the street because of it. i race on the track 68 firebird 647hp 656ft. lbs. tq. 10.14 sec. in the quarter. on the street this is suicide, my friends 16 year old son was thrown out the car last year in a street race, died on impact. like we racers say, " TRACK IT OR PACK IT".

any one caught street racing should lose their licensce. its stupid, wreckless, and puts other people in harms way. what should be done is use the shut down runways on the military bases ( courtesy of the idiot clinton ) to do the race.not only can the risk be nearly eliminated for all involved, but a track record can be calculated for just how much faster the other guy is

it's a lot of fun when theres not many other people on the road. secluded areas make racing fun and cops are less likely to come out.
