"Blitzkrieg" means "lightning war" or "lightning attack." It was the phrase used during World War II to describe the Germans' way of fighting. The Germans, under Hitler's rule of course, would attack quickly and without warning. They were quick and strong. They would strike over and over again, for hours at a time. Especially in the London area, attacks and bombings occured at all hours of both the day and night. Hope this helps! ;-)

It means "lightning war". I think that's evevn the literal meaning. It was first used when Germany invaded Poland in 1939.

Literally "lightning war". The term was created to describe the rapid combined arms ( airpower, armor, artillery, and infantry) tactics refined by the Wehrmacht (German Army) in the late 1930's and used very successfully in conquering Poland and France in the early part of WWII.
