ya you sure do!!

if you just turn on the fan with the A/C or heater off, the energy is power source is only the car's battery.

on the other hand, if you turn on the A/C, the car battery will not be able to handle its large power demand. so the A/C gets its power source from your fuel (gas).

as a result, your fuel is consumed as long as the A/C is turned on, thus decreasing your mileage and in some cars, speed.

so naturally, you save gas if you turn off the A/C.

check out the site below for some tips to save gas - they've mentioned about A/C's there too:

hope this answers your question!!

Well yes, you will save gas.
Maybe what you read was about using the ac versus rolling down the windows. People usually roll down the windows rather than using the ac to save gas but I have read many times that using the ac doesn't use more gas than rolling down the windows, because of the extra drag created by the windows being down.
So between rolling down the windows on a hot day or using the ac, go with the ac. If you are going to be using extra gas anyway, might as well be as cool as possible.

They did this in Myth busters. On short trips it doesn't make a difference, but on long ones turning off the AC saves gas.

In the past, you used to save gas by turning off the A/C. Today, you don't save much, because the cars are designed to be more efficient when driven with the windows closed.

sure, yet no longer plenty. in the adventure that your motor vehicle gets 25 miles to each gallon, and you turn on your A/C, you will then get approximately 23 miles to each gallon. I recomend which you do use your A/C instead of rolling down the domicile windows because of the fact while your motor vehicle domicile windows are down and you're employing over 40 mph, you will easily be dropping extra gas bacause the with the domicile windows down you're arising drag and that slows your motor vehicle down, meaning you will desire to apply extra gas to bypass quicker. So use you A/C reason that is going to save you gas interior the long-term and that is going to be a quiter holiday. Enjoi

Funny you should ask!

I was watching Myth Busters on the Discovery Channel and they were attempting to answer the same question.

They took two identical vehicles with exactly the same amount of gas, driving at exactly the same speed, one with the a/c on and one with the a/c off and the windows open.

The one with the a/c turned off ran out of gas much sooner than the one with the a/c turned on.

Definitely! If you have any of the newer cars with the "instant read" mileage, you can notice the difference very quickly. Would be interested to know where you found that Yahoo said "No." Haven't seen that.
