Absolutely!
You never know what might happen.
Think about it.
In an extreme situation, the movement of people on the floor might hit the natural frequency of the building causing resonance and the whole building might collapse down on top of you.
You'll be glad you had your helmet on if this happens!

Of course wearing a helmet is a must, but what kind of helmet? You dont want to wear a knight's helmet because it's too heavy and the visibility is no good. Also bad would be a motorcycle helmet because the visor would keep flipping down over your area of vision. I have to say bicycle helmet sounds pretty good for this situation. There are holes for ventilation and it is very light, which you will appreciate once you get to the lambada (forbidden dance). Also make sure you strap on the helmet so it doesnt go flying out when you are shaking your bon bons. Most importantly, the bicycle helmet comes with a visor which looks hella cool, it gives you a sense of fashion. (people may confuse you for Professor Kool!!).
One thing you have to know is that salsa is VERY complicated. So I HIGHLY recommend you take a pen (put it on the front pocket of your shirt for easy access). Don't forget to wear your glasses because you want to see how all the moves are done CLEARLY.
Wear a nice buttoned shirt and tight slacks (so you can look elegant and be more aerodynamic) with a belt so your pants dont drop from all the movent you'll be doing.
Follow these tips and you'll be fine. Good luck!!

Definitely no helmet ;) but dress comfortably especially foot wear. Also before the lesson, try stretching a little, just find a private room, lay down on the floor and kick your legs up a bit, then sit up and stretch forward reaching your toes while keeping your legs straight in front of you. This will help to relax you and as you are stretching you will feel lighter on your feet and sexier . We all know that Latin dances are all about feeling sexy. Most of all, have fun! its your first lesson, after it you can only get better ;)

My first bike, that I bought my self with babysitting money. Weighed about 25 lbs. My sister would ride on the handle bars and one of my little brothers would be on the back fender. Our big worry was someones foot getting caught in the chain. Or the bubble gum cards falling off. Hanging out all night in the summer was magical. Poor kids there days. No clue what fun is.

Helmet, goggles, knee pads and preferably a pillow on your butt. No, just kidding. There is nothing to worry about, it will be fun. Presumably, it is a beginner class, and everyone will be in the same boat.

no. I recently started salsa, and although it first seems hard, it really is a lot easier than it looks. Just relax and have fun.

Just remember to put one foot directly in front or in back of the other foot. Your hips will have no other choice but to sway in the Latin motion, and you will look great!
