Absolutely, hummingbirds are scared of movement, fast movement, that's why they hardly ever land. To clarify what I mean by fast movement, it's when you might come outside when they are at the feeder and will immediately take off. Any movement makes them go. The only thing you might want to consider with the feeder that close to your house is the potential to stain siding. If you have vinyl or aluminum you don't run much of a risk, but wood siding even painted, particularly if some paint is missing you run the risk. If the spot you choose has a view of the feeder you are in for a real treat.Make sure it's the right time to put out a feeder, by all means get it out a little earlier than you think. Keep the food fresh, change it once every three or four days. Oh by the way, remember that hummingbird food is sugar water. Pay close attention to any spilled close to the house, it draws ants.

Yes, however keep the feeder out of the sun (it can ferment the sugar water) and the wind, and also away from any place where a cat can perch and pounch! Be sure to replace the nectar twice a week whether it has been used up or not. It may take a few weeks for the Hummingbirds to find the feeder so don't move it around until you have given them a chance.

Please do! I have a feeder on my balcony, not more than 5 feet from my door, and not only do they not care, but I can stand about 2 feet from it, and they still come to feed!

Please though, make you own nectar! All you need is 4 parts hot water to 1 part white table sugar. DO NOT PUT RED DYE IN IT! Yes, hummers are attracted to red, but most feeders are already red plastic, and the dye is not needed nor good for them. Absolutely! We have awnings, and we hang 2 feeders right by 2 of our kitchen windows. We can walk right up to the windows, and watch them feed. They get used to your presence after awhile!

Yes. Mine is hung from a bent coathanger attached to the eavestrough. makes it about 15" from the house. Doesn't seem to bother the birds.
