Several law enforcement agencies investigated for 16 months. Cherry Hill N.J. is a sanctuary city. The Liberal town council, in violation of the U.S. Government Code ordered their Police Officers not to ask if anyone was here illegally in their contacts. Just like Paris the Fort Dix 6 drove in violation of the law. When your drivers license is suspended there is nothing that can prevent you from driving anyway except the knowledge that you may be incarcerated if caught. The citizens are the eyes and ears for law enforcement. Have you ever seen anything that required the presence of a Police Officer and made the call. Same thing with the people that informed HS. :Additional

I am a 30 year veteran of law enforcement. Every Police Officer when he takes the oath swears to enforce all laws, local, state and FEDERAL. Here in Ca. if an officer fails to do so it is called an "Act of Omission". Federal funding can be taken away from those cities. I was on the Ca., Az., Mexico border. We turned illegals over to the Border Patrol many times a day, sometimes the same one twice in the same day. Police Departments enforce Federal drugs laws and should not pick and choose the laws to enforce that will get the most votes for the politicians

People think Homeland Security is a single entity. Its a group and part of that group is defective. Consider LA PD, who have a special order 40 which says" you cannot ask if someone is an illegal alien when you stop them or question them in the course of doing your job.

The Ft Dix group apparently had some of the same issues, because one was arrested 24 times and no one asked if they were legal or not. How can a group of people, like LA PD who answers to and receives taxes, turn their heads and ignore a potential disaster in the making, all because of political correctness about illegal immigration????

Something to really think about because apparently many departments have similar rules or laws that keep police from doing their jobs.

Its false logic. Public safety is not a commodity like gas and electricity that government delivers to you, its something that many people have to participate in, especially private citizens. The lowering of the crime rates in the last 15 years is the result of citizen involvement (crimewatches, advisory boards, community policing) and not new police equipment. The ordinary citizens involved in finding these terrorists are heroic people who saw something worth reporting, not a testimony to inefficiency of security forces. Drug dealers are found by private citizens, sex offenders are noticed by people in parks and around schools, etc. etc. You are looking to denigrate and not acknowledge what did work. The entire immigration problem is a serious security problem and the Federal government (that means our elected officials) have failed to give police the power to control. Now that was under many years of Republicans in power (who tend to oppose illegal immigration) and its not likely to get better with the likely rise of a Democratic President (who tend to look upon Illegals as new Dem voters). We now have a Dem Congress and nothing has changed. I don't see it getting any better but I am happy that the private citizens acted and can only imagine if the Muslim population in the US would also act as US citizens finding terrorists in their communities would be much easier.

Cheyenne...continuing with your chain of thought consider this...most all of the publicised success stories concerning terrorist plots, have been the result of tips to authorities. simply, tips to local law enforcement that were filtered up and followed up.

it may be useful intelligence is being gained by our military efforts; but, thus far, we have not been informed of it.

Dems want the Homeland Security dudes to become unionized.

The Circuit City guys actually have to work and do a good job ... not join an irresponsible union.
