Often, a pregnant woman gets implantation bleeding around the time her period is expected. That's when the embryo implants into the uterine lining...and it sometimes disrupts a bit of the lining and the woman gets light bleeding, and it's often mistaken for just a lighter, shorter period. So you may want to take a test if you are experiencing this. Good luck!

EDIT: to answer your second question, there are some test that will tell you 5 days before your missed period, or approximately 9 days after conception. Keep in mind, though, that conception does not necessarily take place on the day you have sex. The sperm can live inside you waiting to fertilize an egg for 5 days, so it could be up to 14 days after sex. Normal tests should tell you 19 days after sex.

There are a lot of factors that can cause your period to be lighter. If you have had recent weight gain or loss, if your physical activity has changed, or if you've had an increase in stress. A lighter shorter period could be a factor from pregnancy. At this point, your hormones have already changed so taking a pregnancy test would be reliable

It is best to wait about two weeks. If within those two weeks you start to feel symptoms that make you think you're pregnant, you could well be. Just listen to your body and its reactions for a couple of weeks, then try a pregnancy test. The most trustworhy pregnancy test you can have is one done by a doctor.
I hope any distress is short lived. And good luck.
