I'm from Cal and I've been to NY. It's colder/hotter there and the city is huge, but I still liked it. As long as your trip is reasonable (money, job availability etc), why not go? You can always come back to Cal and meanwhile you'll experience something new. Traveling is a good thing.

New York couldn't be more different than California. I personally don't think you'd like it very much if you were considering between California and Florida.

By New York I'm assuming that you are referring to the city , most people think New York City is the only place in the state :)). I live in Albany which is about 160 miles north of the city. I say go for it , be prepared to pay high taxes ( income and sales) and take hellish cab rides :)). I think the best benefit for you will be you don't have to worry about the city sliding into the Ocean :))

Come on over and give it a try. It's exhilarating and a challenge to survive here, and I love it. NYC is truly a world class city.

Usually it's the other way around.
I say go for it. Just don't sell the farm in case you want to come back.
And you will.
