When I put the decoupage medium down and then put the image down, the paper napkin sucks up the medium, and wrinkles like crazy. How did you prevent this?

try putting your napkin down on a dry surface first and then gently smooth it out working from the inside out to the edges....or use less wet medium or straight Elmers, just a very little until it dries and then go back over it or a glue stick to at least position the napkin and once it dries, go back over it.......just work it in thin layers, a little at a time....it can be done, you just have to work it and it will come out the way you want....good luck !

Decoupage Napkins

You do know to use only the very top layer of the napkin, don't you? The way I do it, is to place the portion of the print on the napkin I want to use on the object, and apply the decoupage medium over the print, from the center out. I don't find the need to apply the medium first, since the layer of the napkin is so thin.

With paper napkins for decoupage you use only the top layer of the double tissue, so there is not as much paper to soak and get twisted.

I have never done it, though a lot of people I know do, but I understood that you put your cut picture on your work where there is already a layer of the medium, so you can push it flat and cover it with a smaller layer immediately.

Go to the decoupage but if you read how to make a piñata. It should help a lot.

I have never done this with paper napkins. I use
masking tape then color it with shoe polish for color. Its really nice if you use a wine bottle and put a picture on the front and then rip different lengths of masking tape and cover the rest of the bottel. Then get your favorite color of shoe polish and rub it on the tape. Its really pretty.

Good Luck..
