August is hot everywhere in the U.S., but cooler in the higher elevations and mountains. Seatte, WA, Boston, MA, Denver, CO

Yep, the air is hot in the summer, and the water has bacteria counts that are too high. I would go north of the U.S. and try Canada. I hear the Maritimes (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island) are becoming very popular. Although you could consider the mountains of Northern New England, Montana, Idaho, and Washinton. Have a great vacation!!!

Go to Newport, Oregon, on the Oregon coast. There is plenty to see and you won't be hot at all. There is a marine science center for free, a great aquarium nearby, fishing from charter boats on the bay and even go crabbing for a small fee.

I agree with what's already posted:

-Colorado (higher elevations)
-New England (specifically near the coast)
