2006. In 2006, the Saints returned to New Orleans with a vengance. They finished 10-6 in an exciting season that started with changes made to the team. Sean Payton came in and changed the attitude of the franchise. Drew Brees was signed to be our franchise quarterback, a significant upgrade over Aaron Brooks. Reggie Bush fell to us at #2, giving us an explosive offensive weapon. We drafted a starting offensive guard in the fourth round with the pick of Jahri Evans. Two picks away from Mr. Irrelevant, we landed Marques Colston, a player many NFL teams thought was too small to play TE but too slow to play WR. Only an ankle injury kept him from being Rookie of the Year. That blocked punt on September 25, 2007 set the tone for the whole year. The NFL quickly saw the Saints weren't a "Cinderella" team or a "feel good story" or a team winning off of emotion. They saw that the New Orleans Saints are for real! 2006 was our best year because the Saints earned the respect of the NFL.

1979 - My Los Angeles Rams (and we'll ALWAYS be the LOS ANGELES Rams). We were 5-6 at one point during the season but closed strong; then upset Dallas in the Divisional Playoffs and then beat Tampa Bay 9-0 in the N.F.C. Championship game. In Super Bowl XIV vs. Pittsburgh we outplayed the Steelers for 3 1/2 quarters before a couple of LUCKY Terry Bradshaw passes beat us 31-19.

Since I am a Dolphin fan, I can safely say that this is the easiest question I have ever answered on Yahoo Answers...1972!
However, 1982 was pretty memorable, watching Don Shula take a team that did not have championship talent and practically willing them to the Super Bowl.

2006 Saints. One year after Katrina, the Saints go from 2nd worst in the NFL the previos year to the NFC Championship. The whole country was behind the Saints last year. It was simply emotional and amazing!
In Week 3, when the Saints played on national TV in their first game back in the Superdome and they blocked that punt for a TD. That might have been my favorite single moment as a sports fan.

MN Vikings. 1998. 15-1 regular season. Should have won the superbowl but blew it against the falcons. They had 4 trips to the superbowl, but this season they dominated the regular season and it was fun to watch.

I agree with Who Dat but it also helped out our community too. The Saints helped us get Katrina out of our minds for 3 hours on a Sunday.

1976 Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though they didn't win the SB that year, this was probably the best Steeler team ever & possibly the best team in NFL history.
