I am a schizophrenic and the voices are no laughing matter. You have no control over "who they are" or "what their motives are" for saying the things they do This fact makes it obvious to the sufferer that they are wholly other and not a figment of his/her imagination. You only know whether they are male or female by the tone of their voice and there may be a whole "chorus" of voices yelling at once. My "voices" sometimes identified themselves.

One time a male voice said "I am the devil" and nothing more. It meant nothing as I know there is no "devil". Another time I heard a name said, " ? Cepeda", which I assumed after-wards to be the base ball star but as I am not a fan of baseball, knew nothing about him and knew no one by that name, it was a meaningless statement..

I no longer seem to hallucinate and am still on neuroleptic medications.

The "voices", I think, went away because I gave them no reaction to what they said or meant other than the initial fear and later curiosity. I thought of them solely as malevolent, harassing entities to be ignored. My "poltergeist like" visual hallucinations persisted for some time however. They seem to have ceased too. I am a little disappointed because I never found out for sure what caused them, how they were able to "get in my mind" or their reasons for afflicting me.

For myself, I'd choose myself. For the voices in my head...probably some southern baptist minister, Paula Deen, and others.
