Excellent point. That's a very clever ploy the homosexual community has used-successfully- to try and make people who are morally opposed to that abnormal lifestyle, feel guilty about it as though something were wrong with you. "There's nothing wrong with a man having anal intercourse with another, you just have a phobia". What crap! It's very clever and very effective, as I said.

Yes, a phobia is being afraid of something. So in answer to your question ...unless you are afraid of homosexuals there isn't a logical way you can be homophobic. To disagree just means you have your own opinions.
In today's society you are considered a homophobic because
that is just another of thousands of labels embarked on people who have a tendency to disagree with what others
find the popular norm....

True, I have no clue where the term comes from. A better might be sexual orientation racism maybe, I dunno.
But the term has taken on a different meaning, sort of like the word gay, it used to be the word for happy.
So maybe in the early days homophobia was actually considered a phobia, but then the meaning changed and it became a blanket term. So now it doesn't refer to a phobia at all.
I'm sure someone else has a better answer than I. Great question btw.

If you would of asked this question 20 years ago, you would of got a majority of answers condemning homosexuality.
However as you can tell by the above answers our culture perspective on homosexuality has changed. All media outlets promote homosexuality as a natural form of sexuality.
As a result over the past decade or so our society and mostly our youth have been preached and taught that anything negative against homosexuality is intolerant.
In fact if i were to make a statement through religion, science or mearly logic that went against the mainstream beliefs I would be considered intolerant or made to feel that my beliefs are wrong.
It's interesting how our ideals of absolute truth have changed over the times. The idea of right and wrong the concept of morals. The media has made these subjects objective when in actually sound morals, virtues and laws shouldn't change over time.

i hit upon this very difficult as a believer. after I had my conversion adventure, i did not trust that homosexuality became incorrect, and that i endured to carry that view for a lengthy time period afterwards. although, having appeared slightly deeper, I comprehend that we are made male and female in God's photograph because God is both male and female as a being, and mutually we are made finished. God does no longer hate gays, yet He needs us all to be finished, and adult men being mutually (or women) isn't the perfect for them. i imagine many Christians judgemental of homosexuals, and ignore with reference to the message of affection and charm for them, which makes the international trust that God is likewise like that. no longer some thing may be further from the reality. I unquestionably have gay acquaintances, i do not hate them!

Excellent point and you are absolutely right. Just because you disagree with the practice of homosexuality does not make you homophobic. They are two separate things just like you said.

So you disagree, as in you don't mind gay people, but you prefer being straight yourself?
That's not considered homophobic. I don't mind gay people; a lot of my closest friends are gay. But that doesn't mean I should be gay as well. If you don't feel that kind of attraction to your own gender, you don't have to force it. You either do or you don't.
Then, if you disagree with people being gay in general, I wouldn't say you're homophobic, but I would say you're very, very naive. Homosexuality is more common than you think, and only believing it's wrong is a sign of naivity. It's not something you can choose. No matter if it's against the laws of reproduction.
Just let people be happy, whatever the gender they're attracted to.

You are a homophobic if you felt threatened/disgusted by the idea of homosexuals, and somehow act out against them. For example, making rude/degrading comments about them, acting out violence against them, etc.
I guess if you just disapprove, it's just not being very open-minded, but not homophobic.

Do you disagree with blindness? Or maleness? Or the sun coming up? Perhaps you are afraid you might have a tinge of homosexuality in yourself. Do you disapprove of hair color, which can be changed? Sexual orientation is something you are born with.

We are all entitled to our opinions and I think it is a
word that is made up to make heterosexuals feel
more uncomfortable about it. I do not agree with
the person that said if you don't agree it's because
you are naive. Naivity has got absolutely NOTHING
to do with it. It is a matter of preference. Does she
mean that if we knew more about it we would ALL
start batting both sides??
