The external zip drive I am looking to buy says my computer has to have this "Certified USB controller" and I don't know if my comp has it. It came with 3 USB ports, it is a Toshiba Satellite M45-S169.

certified, possibly meaning USB 2.0 ?
I wouldn;t worry about the term certified - just plug it in and see what windows recognoizes.

it may advise you that the device is connected to a USB 1.1 port and can work faster if connected to a USB 2.0 port.

no matter either way, as long as you have the driver disk for the usb device, it should work.

All USB ports since the times of Windows 98 have been certifed. You would only have an uncertified port if you were running a Windows 95 computer. Certification for USB began with Windows 98. Check you computer and if it has either a license or a sticker for 98, ME, 2000, XP or Visa, then you are good.

you have a usb port? then it's certified. it's referring to the driver, and it will be fine as long as you have a port, no worries.

zip drives are an old technology now, so you won't even NEED usb 2.0 (although some newer drives may support it)
