Why? Can anyone offer me some sort of explanation?

There are parts of San Diego (where I live) where it's 3.85 a gallon for regular unleaded. Trust me, Florida's got nothing on us.

Someone said it's just because taxes are higher in California- there are about 40 cents of tax charged on every gallon of gas. That doesn't even bridge the gap between 3.35, which someone said it costs in Florida (and its quite a bit cheaper in other states like South Carolina and New Jersey) and 3.85, which is the cost of gas at a 76 station down the street from my house. Any other ideas?

And yeah, the Bay Area is even more ridiculous.

It's primarly due to California's taxes !! Plus the additives mandated by State Air Quality laws.

And for the Florida resident, California Regular Gas is running between $3.19-$4.09 in the last 48 hours.

Here in San Carlos California: Regular Gas - $3.53 / gal (LOW PRICE)

Is this question only for people that live in America? Here in Hong Kong we pay 8 US dollars a gallon.
