You put a blank cd into the cd drive and try to copy something to it.

im assuming you have windows so open my computer and right click anywhere in the window. then got to arrange icons by... then click on show in groups. right nar where it says 3 1/2 floppy and cd drive or w/e there should be like a cd-r or cd+r or something (that means you have a burner)

you can have just a cd player
which will be on the front or side of the computer tower
you will see a button to open and close it
you can play cds at this site and burn them

Mine says on the front door. Also, there should be a label on the top you can read before it installed.
If, it already installed your Burning Software usually detect the Model and Display this when you setup to Burn.

Usually it'll say on the outside of the drive, but go to My Computer(right click), click properties, click hardware, click device manager, and then click the + with a box around it and right click the drive and click properties, it should say within there.

Try burning a CD....if it burns then I'm thinking you might have one!

Most computer disc drives have something on them that says compact disc, if it says rewriteable below it, then it should be able to.
