It came with 1 quart of oil, and I poured just a little in it, and it shows full on the dipstick.

So I'm wondering just how much does it hold, I don't want to run it on too little oil, and I don't want to put too much in.

Normally they come pre filled with the correct amount but under normal fill conditions they take .5 qt.

If you let the new oil run down into the crankcase and then wiped off the dip stick before you put in it again then you should believe what is says on the dipstick.

Since it already had oil in it adding a little got it up very high. Don't go higher or you will have moving parts smacking into the high oil level and frothing it up.

most lawnmowers have oil in the crankcase and you don't put oil in the gas. but if you have a 2 stroke engine you will need 2 ounces for every gallon.

About 12 oz for a small lawnmower engine. Try to buy a canister with the exact amount so you re not guessing

you dont put too much as much as its enough for it to function without hurting the motor.

YOU NEVER FILL IT ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP

that's the most common mistake people make
