Is the shower faucet a newer one? I replaced my shower/tub faucets when I remodeled, and had a problem with water hammer when it was turned all the way to hot. I had to replace the guts after a few years and Moen sent me a whole repair kit that incluced an internal check valve that took care of the waterhammer; I told them I was having that problem too, and they said they were including it to solve it.
So think of that, or check with a plumbing wholesaler to see if there is something you can put in-line to stop it.

USA Two items to check. #1 - make sure the pipes are securely fastened. You should not be able to move them by hand.
#2 Install a water hammer arrester. Hammer is caused by air in the lines, but usually shakes the pipes when the water is shut off.

I agree that the pipe(s) are probably not secured behind the wall. Next time you turn it on, grab the showerhead pipe and see if it stops. The elbow that the showerarm connects to should be secured to a stud.

yeah its air in the pipes more than likely, and on hot side, what you can do is put an expansion tank in your hot water line. Ive seen Home Depot start selling them, around $30-50. if your used to doing coper water line work urself its a simple install, or should not be too expensive for a plumber to install.

You can go to any hardware store and ask for a pipe anchor clamp. They can explain how to fasten it, but it's fairly simple. Just screw it to a stud. It's no big deal.

The main reason is probably your pipes are not fastened properly into place. No wories about it it just means they will make noise when they are being pressurized.

You probably have an old plumbing system. I don't think that you can do anything about it, unfortunately.
