Civil obedience theories are always relevant, regardless of your point of view regarding their justification. A better question is this: are the circumstances under which civil disobedience was justified by Thoreau in place today? That is a real matter of debate that is very relevant.

Depends....Martin Luther King incorporated something similar. Civil rights, and other reasons for protests are often scrutinized, but the government does need to be kept in check. (Peacefully, if possible) Thoreau had some "radical" ideas, but I'm sure he had some of it right. Haven't read his work for awhile, but I recall that Walden was a really good read.
