It's funny. I just did a research paper on a similar subject. I polled 100 people and found that 50% of those without tattoos tended to see those with tattoos as fundamentally different than they are, regardless of what the tattoo is or how large it is. Now, the other 50% just didn't care. And I mean that. More often than not, their response was "I don't care." I have some more stats and you're welcome to them.... :)

People are judged by many things, but tattoos hit you right in the eye. They tell you something about the person long before you get to know anything else about him.
It's not only the tattoo. We have to wonder why a person who has beautiful smooth skin willingly markes it up with ugly pictures. Also, the subject of the tattoos tell us something. And the number of them tell us something else.
The inner person is hidden. Tattoos hit you right in the eye.

I am less judgmental than I used to be when it comes to tattooed people.
However, if they look like jail tats, I will note them and stay clear of the person.

I did one time. These young men moved a large tv for me. They were rather... well, tats and piercings, longer hair and baggy clothes. I thought oh great... However these young men were the nicest and most polite young men I had seen in a while. They were funny and smart. I was glad I met them and they helped me to not judge someone for what they looked like.

I've known too many great guys with tatts to do that. You really can't judge a book by it's cover.
