i would like to know if anyone agree's, that if the parents of missing madeliene where 18/25 yrs old and from a council estate and left there kids in an apartment while they went out for a quiet meal, would our great nation be backing them with funds to stay out there whilst the police search the area??

i think not

chances are that they would be dreadful parents and would have to stay in portugal for fear of of beng lynched when they got home.

don't get me wrong i do feel for the mcann family but can't help thinking that it could be so different.

I concer. If they were younger and still living in Liverpool/Everton on state benefits then not a lot would be done. UK law states that no child uner 14 can be left unsupervtsed for any length of time.

although i see your point - i dont agree, had this been the case of the family on the council estate would...
A-the council estate18-25 year olds would be unlikely to afford the holiday to Praire De Luz ,Portugal if they had 3 kids under the age of 4....
B-the kids would already be on the 'at risk register' with the police and Social Services FACT!! if neighbours had noted and reported that they were being left regulary on their own
C-yes why shouldnt OUR NATION support the funding of Maddie or any other child - it doesnt matter what social status there is behind the story.......

This isnt some game or political or social heirarchy - regardless of what the background, BRITAIN is a great country with a good heart, ....and we all look at the situation as if it were our own family. I should imagine the parents are kicking themselves and feel guilty enough about leaving Maddie, but the main concern is finding her safe and well.....poor little lamb :(

remember Ben Needham ....??? anyone

People are overreacting. I have found that very few people have any clue what the specific details of what happened were. Most don't even know that the restaurant they went to was right across the pool from their room. Am I saying they didn't make a big mistake? No. But the fact is that you can turn your head for 30 seconds, and every single parent on earth has, and turn around to find your kid dead, even at home. Under most circumstances, leaving them in that room was safer than having them with you and simply forgetting to watch them. I think people need to stop judging, which is useless and callous. You are not a better person than these folks. You are just a luckier one.

You have made a valid point and I'm sure in some respects it is true.

However, it is the press that dishes the dirt and then sits back to watch everything unfold. With the McCanns there is no dirt to dish except that they made the biggest mistake of their youngs lifes and this will live with them for ever.

Let us get this into prospective here the most important issue and concern is that Madelines is found safe and well.

Then after that the baying hounds can be set free.

In the United States, leaving a child of that age alone for any length of time, much less as long as this child was left alone is considered child neglect and child endangerment. The parents could very well have been considered unfit and the child could have been removed from the home by the government.

a little girl is missing and you think that it's a class thing get a grip! if any child of this nation goes missing the whole nation does care about the well-fare of them! no matter which class you are born into or the family circumstances each and every child is an innocent and no one has the right to take them away from their family.

I know!! I realize that European countries care more about the individual (they're smaller countries, their attitude is different, etc) but there's no way in Hell you'd have celebs and such putting up money for a safe return and that nonsense, and Yes, they should be pegged for bad parenting, no matter who they are, or what they do! I was appalled when I heard that story.

You should NEVER leave you children alone like that, in a foreign country or not, for heaven's sake!!!

I agree with you. It's a horrible situation, but I can't imagine ever leaving a 3 year old alone so I could go out and eat (even if it was just across the street) and I am not even a parent.

I agree. Also i cant understand why celebirities, and the press have made such a huge deal over this case, why not other kids that have been abducted or missing in the past.
But at the same time im glad they are doin so much to help.

I agree that the reaction would be different, but only to the parents who would be flogged in the street (still can't get my head around why it's OK to leave them when they are abroad)

As far as looking for the missing child, I don't agree, I believe everyone would be just as intent on finding them.
