This quote from an AP news story boils me:

"...Iraqi security forces near the soldiers' outpost probably saw and heard the attack and 'chose to not become an active participant in the attack on either side.' "

Now, I don't want to force our military to leave a job undone -- I admire them for their difficult task, and I want them to be able to do the job that's demanded of them. That said, I think we've got to insist that Iraqis' fate is in THEIR hands. When are we going to demand the corruption stop and civil warriors take control of their country? Anyone have any proof that this is happening? (And let's not discuss whether our Idiot King should have even sent us to this bogus "war," to begin with; that's another matter.)

Good Q Like asking the Public in chicago ( and the Police) why does the FBI have to step in to fight Al Capone? The amount of money and weapons pouring in from the Islamists ( Syrian and Iranian) is staggering! That coupled with fear and threats and the society and the Police are stymied. That is why we cannot just leave it will be a rape and Muder fest!!!

The iraqis will run themselves one way or another if we leave. The country has a history of violent control by their leaders. Why should it change? USA has not done any better. USA overthrew the hawaiian monarchy. Hawaii is a quiet place today and the USA is still there and made it their 50 state.

Never . The Iraq was run nicely without any problem with both Shias and Sunnis living in peace till US attacked them. It was a secular country with Shia,Sunnis and Christians were living without fighting each other.

Now after it was attacked and 'liberated' by US all problems started with an additional problem from Osama bil laden.

Now tell who started all this?

How can you ask someone to "tow the line" while asking when they will "decide its their country"????

By NOT "towing the line" of the coalition forces, doesn't that make them independent and therefore not taking orders from the forces that occupy their country? That sounds like a country to me and that is why its time for us to leave Iraq.

Language Police: The correct phrase is "toe" the line, as in to put your toe on the line. You're not hooking up a tow truck to the line.

To answer your question, they may not step up until they realize that they are going to have to take care of themselves.

what do you expect. these people thought it was bad when Saddam was in power. Then we come along and there is more chaos and death then ever. It is ridiculous what has happened to this country.
