Not really true. I graduated from high school at 17 and couldn't get an apartment until I was 18 (months later) because you can't sign a contract legally. So, while your friend is correct that you can move out after you have graduated from high school, where you can go is somewhat limited until you are 18.
Keep in mind that legally, you are a minor until 18, even if you have graduated from high school, unless you've been legally emancipated by the courts.

Depends on where you live.
But, absent abuse why move out? It should be a really strong reason. By moving out, legal or not, at your age, you will likely have little to live on. Finish school and get a job.

You have to go through the court systems and become whats called legally emancipated. Your parents have to sign papers saying they allow you to move out. I moved into my own apt @ 17.

The CATCH is that you have to pay rent and utilities which are EXPENSIVE. Stay with your parents until you are 18 and save up money, then move out.

The catch is that you must be legally emancipated OR have graduated high school and enrolled in a continuing education program such as college or trade school.

It depends on where you live, but remember, 17 is still not a legal adult. If your parents object, you can't leave home. Unless you live in a state where you can emancipate yourself, then just bear it for another year.

i moved in with my boyfriend when i was 14 because my dad said it was ok, and he trusted my boyfriend to look after me, its up to your parents, and you really want to think before you try to make it for yourself, the outside world without parents is big and scary and full of bills.
