we live in a residential area with lots of trees and birds usually wake up and visit our roof or trees near our windows in the very early morning (like 4:30!), and we can hear them even through closed windows. unfortunately we have two young children, so white noise machines are out of the question becasue then we can't hear them when they are having problems through the night. the only thing i've been able to think of is maybe a scarecrow in the yard and on the roof? any other ideas/insights? thanks

I rather enjoy hearing birds in the morning... However, if you don't, the best thing to do would be to place a fake "predator" in the areas that they frequent. The best would be a plastic statue of an owl.

Quit letting it bother you... and yes you are letting it bother you. If you ignore it and block it out you should be fine. Just think of how you as a parent block out all the noise your kids make with their toys and stuff, that should help you out. Cultivate your selective hearing, because nothing will stop the birds from singing, a scarecrow will do nothing.. it doesnt even work to scare crows off.. the only other thing I can suggest is earplugs but you say you need to hear your kids, so thats not an option. I always say sound only bugs you if you let it and its true, I dont let anything bother me when I am sleeping, not lawnmowers, dogs, the train or birds.. its all in your mind, block it out and you'll be fine.

We have found a/c and a fan do nicely. This is a problem you can't solve so get used to it or move. We have birds of all types and freaking pigeons, now pigeon poop all over your car is a problem. If your kids need you in the middle of the night tell them to come get in bed with you, then you can use white noise.

Erm. I think you can hang tin cans on your roof, but not on the antenna though!
I read about this and maybe scarecrow can work too lol. But it's going to look scary at night with something like a ghost on the roof.

You may be able to use a combination of a white noise machine -- and baby monitors. The monitors should amplify the children's noises enough that they would penetrate the white noise machine if they cried out in the night.

I also have that problem, but i got used to it. The arent that early where i live around 7am usually.

The best thing i have to say is get a fan and put it in your room, it should help a little bit. Or move to some other place.
