Wolfowitz is trying to take advantage of the situation in order to have himself cleared of serious charges. The World Bank does not want to directly confront the Bush administration and Wolfowitz knows it. The US and Europe are cooperating on a number of important issues. Wolfowitz is challenging them to vote him out and create a clash. The Bank doesn’t want a clash so they will negotiate and he will probably leave with no, or reduced, charges against him.

There is more to this than meets the FOX eye.
First his girlfriend worked at the Bank for years before he got there.
Next Men are jealous that she is the highest paid professional woman in the Banking community. and she is Arab.
The News makes it sound like Wolfowitz picked up some trolop and gave her a million dollar job.

We all know he gave his girl a raise. He is not Innocent. But he covered his butt by asking not to be the one to do it. He wants to be sure this scandal and anything else he has done does not come back to bite him later (with criminal charges). Walking away with a blanket "he did nothing wrong." from his board will cover his butt again. Leaving early like this will prevent any midnight shredding sessions he might have needed later.
As for selling out the Pres, oh, well... Maybe if the Pres. appointed people with actual skill instead of political cronies, there would be actual good work left behind them instead of indictments and resignations.

I don't think that this will even fool the average Fox viewer. No one cops a plea unless he's guilty of a greater charge. This, of course, does not apply if a person is being tortured, but the neoconservatives can hardly use torture as a defense.

Because no one who has been appointed by President Bush knows the meaning of accountability or taking responsibility for their own incompetency or immoral actions. Chalk it up to another left wing conspiracy to discredit the administration -- brilliant.

Member of the Bush school of failures and trying to place the blame on someone else. Will he blame Bill Clinton for his problems?

Legacy.
He's already made enough money, now he's just worried about not being held responsible for his actions and having a legacy he can look back on....a legacy that has been carefully sanitized.
