Libertarian - yup I am one - I knew from the age of 6 that I was different compared to those around me. People always talking about what they can get from the government for free made me mad. It is never free - its just that they arent the ones paying for it. Everything the government does is screwed up, costs too much money and is ever expanding. Someone finally introduced me to a book titled "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. That was my turning point. I finally realized that I wasnt alone and that other people were out there that think like me.
I set out to find them. Imagine my surprise when I found a third party in the two party system. Now I make every effort I can to enlighten others around me. Its great to see the expression on their face when the light bulb goes off...LOL...there are so many libertarians out there - they just dont know they are one yet.
Libertarians believe in self-responsibility. Something about 98 percent of this country doesnt believe in. Everyone is always trying to blame the other person rather then taking responsibility for their own actions and moving forward. No wonder we are in such a crapper.
Libertarians also believe in freedom of choice of everything so long as you dont use force or fraud to get it. Personal freedom on this level can only be accomodated with responsibility. By design this must happen, anything short of it is either something forced on you or some sort of fraud against you.
Libertarians recognize that others making your choices for you is wrong. Thats why they are so against anintrusive government with billions of laws. For those that dont understand law we can make it real simple - laws are not in place to control criminals they are in place to control law abiding citizens.
While I realize that may sound wierd to most people lets look at it and then decide. A criminal doesnt care about the law thats why he is a criminal. He will "break" the law anytime he wants to. The law abiding citizen follows the law and conforms to it, becoming the good sheepple. So who is really being controled? It stand to reason that the fewer the laws the freeier the society.
I hate government intrusion inmy life. I want to do anything I can to get rid of them. Since there is strength in numbers I jined the libertarian party to learn more and become more active in putting our government bak on the right track. Lets get rid of the intrusive laws, shrink the size of governemnt and regain our freedoms.
Over the course of the last few years I have come to the realization that libertarinism is a way of life. The other parties are only in it to see what they can get out of it and what they can control. The democrats want all personal freedoms but want full control of all business and need big government to make that happen. The repubilcans wnat want freedom for businesses but full control over peoples lives and need big governemnt to make that happen. The libertarians want freedom of both with minimal control and the smallest government possible.
While people think we cant handle this type of living I would like to remind them all that we did it for 130 years or so before the government decided to go on this path toward the "new world order". We were free at one time. The biggest problem now is that no one who was free before is still alive to teach us about it.
Thats where we as libertarians come in. We need to teach and spread the word about what freedom really means. And for all those who come up with the security issues they think are nneded to be handled by the government, I ask the simple question - did the government employees every show up before the crime was commited or only after it?
Ben Franklin probably said it best when he stated "Those who give up a little freedom for a littel security deserve neither".

Because Libertarians are more in tune with the Constitution and it's original intent? Everyone seems to want to change it, I think it should never be completely subverted or nullified, but top Dems and Repubs seem to be ok with it, as long as they get some sort of kickback.
I'm not a Libertarian, but I can admire them more than the people that are currently in the republican camp. Except Ron Paul. He's the last remaining non-neocon as far as I can tell.

Mainly because I want to be free.
I want to be free to pursue my business, work, and keep my own money. I want to make my own recreational decisions. I want to only pay for those public entertainments that I actually use, and not have to subsidize national parks and landmarks I will probably never visit. I want to control my own health and healthcare. I want to extend these same freedoms to other people.
It's about freedom. The Republicans and Democrats do not share this interest. They both want to control lifestyle issues, either by forcing people not to say certain words, or file reports to prove they were unbiased in hiring decisions, and both are equally guilty of the idiocy called the "war on drugs". They both fail to recognize the intrusiveness of the income tax system. The Democrats are at least honest enough to recognize that these things demand a big government, but Republicans still talk about "smaller government", but of course their only way to get there is to create a new bureaucracy to be in charge of downsizing and saving money.
I want to be free. That's why.

I am not a member and I have a few problems with thier platform but,
I like the fiscally conservative/limited government and I also like much of the personal freedoms they espouse.
I think that if more people were educated in economics and in the constitution we wouldn't have the Republicans or Democrats.
