No I believe it's just outpatient. You leave to go home the same day.
At least it was when I had mine 20 years ago.

Had my tonsils out a couple of years ago and had to stay in the night of the op as some people get bleeding. I was fine but woke up the next morning with an infection and was very poorly, but to come home had to eat cornflakes and dry toast done that hurt like hell, but could not stay there another night! Just make sure you get antibiotics!!!! but my cousin was fine but apparently it depends on your age if your a kid it does not seem to hurt as much why? i dont know, good luck.

My son had to stay in overnight when he had a tonsillectomy. I think it depends on the patient, they like to keep an eye on you for a while to make sure everything is ok before they let you go home.

No.

A year ago when i contemplated on having the same procedure, my doc only asked overnight stay prior to operation to ensure I will not eat as required. The operation is scheduled for morning and supposedly after six hours (including the operation time) I can go home as normal.

It actually depends. I had my tonsils taken out last year and because I was bleeding so much, I had to stay over night. As long as your bleeding is under control and you aren't in too much pain, they will let you go home the same day.

FYI - stock up on popcicles and water ice...cold foods feel the best on your throat! Also Tylenol makes a liquid pain reliever which is easier to swallow than a pill.

yes, the doctors will want you to stay in over night to keep an eye on you and make sure you don't bleed unnecessarily (don't worry, it's rare- I didn't). They also want to make sure you eat and drink normally with no problems. I went home the very next day.

It depends what time you go down for surgery. If its early in the morning and there are no post op comlications (bleeding, respiratory probs or delayed waking) then you can usally go home that day. If you don't go for surgery untill after 5pm they may keep you in regardless of how the surgery went.

My son had his removed 8 years ago and he had to stay in overnight, purely because his temp had spiked and he refused to swallow anything including his own saliva, we were there for 3 days in the end until he gave in and swallowed.

i had mine done 2 years ago and i had to stay in overnight, I'm 24 so it may vary from patient to patient but i'm pretty sure that adults have to stay in because it's worse for an adult than a child. Hope this helps you.
